Women's Self Defense Clinic
Conflict Continuum This comprehensive structured seminar will cover basic martial arts concepts that can be utilized against a whole multitude of common assaults; thus, obtaining maximum memory retention. During this session, we will teach proven common-sense tactics that can reduce the likelihood of having to use these techniques in the first place. Furthermore, students will learn how to improve their confidence in difficult situations, learn the conflict continuum, how to stay calm in a physical confrontation and the do's and don'ts to keep themselves safe. Students will participate in real life situations such as grabs, chokes, common self-defense weapons you can use, and rape position defense. Concepts will be taken from the incredibly efficient system of martial art of Chon Sul Kwan (Tactical Hapkido), and will provide the student only a taste of the system as a whole while providing them some basic life saving skills. There will be no martial arts forms or extensive kicking/striking during this seminar; only the use and practice of the most efficient conceptual techniques effective on any size assailant. |
Conflict Continuum Overview
What is a Conflict Continuum? This is the scientific social explanation of the progression of a physical attack. Stage 1: The continuum begins with the predator carefully (or at times spontaneously) selecting their victim to assault. Selection of a victim is pulled from social cues from the victim, stance, posture, or distractions of the person that leads to the appearance of easy potential. Stage 2: Verbal conflict is the next stage, but may not always be the case. The perpetrator would want to mentally shock the victim with the use of heavy loaded language. Without going into details, this language would be vulgar or incredibly offensive language beyond the social norms. Stage 3: Then the physical attack with continual progression; for example, wrist grabs with one hand, two hands, chokes, bear hugs, then eventually to the ground or striking. |
